Answers

General questions about Mondo

I cannot find the site!

There can be many reason why you can´t find or access your site. Follow this guide to troubleshoot:

Missing site (troubleshooting)

Is there a "getting started" instruction for Mondo?

Look at this external link: quick guide

You can find more detailed information about the different tools and functions if you click on “Information about tools” in the menu to the left on the help pages.

I cannot use the "Go back one page"-button in the web browser.

You must click on the icon with the two blue arrows forming a circle to the left of the tools name.

Use this button to go back to the tools first page

Can I create a Mondo site that is accessible without password?

If you are employed at a Stockholm University department, you can create a public home page for a course by using a template. This type of site is generally not appropriate for a course since all material on the site is publicly available to anyone.

How do I find a teacher´s user name/user ID?

You can search in external link: SUKAT. Click on the name in the search result.

How do I copy and paste text into Mondo from other word processing programs?

When you copy text from other applications like word processing programs you often get extra unwanted formatting code copied as well. If you want to copy text but keep the formatting made in Word you can use the button with the Word-symbol (shows “Paste from Word” when you hold the cursor on top of it). If you want to copy unformatted text, use the button in the middle showing “Paste as plain text” when you hold the cursor over it (se picture below).

Different ways of pasting text

Sites

Can I see the students view of the site?

If you are a teacher you have the option to view the course site as a student. Then you will only see the content that the students can see. To get back from the student view you click on the link “Exit student view”. This option is only valid for course sites. On project sites there is a similar option where you as a site owner can choose to see the site as a participant.

Use this link to view the site as the students

If you want to try submitting an assignment or doing a test you can manually create a guest account for yourself and add the guest participant to the course site with the role “Student”. You create a guest account from the following link: external link: Create Guest Account

When creating a course site I cannot find the course in the list, where is it?

Contact the LADOK-administrator at your department to find out if the course is created in SISU. If you are looking for a summer course you will find it among the spring semester courses.

How do I find summer courses?

They belong to the spring semester courses.

How do I create a course site and import students that do not belong to my department?

Ask someone at that department to create a course site and add you as a teacher to the site. Or you can ask Helpdesk to do it for you: external link: helpdesk@su.se

How do I remove myself as a teacher/owner on a site?

Go to “Site Info” in the left menu on the site and mark the check box for “Remove”. Finish by clicking “Update participants” further down on the page.

Manually removing a participant

My course (30 credits) is divided into separate sub-courses, not available in LADOK. How do I go about in Mondo to create these course sites?

The rosters you can import to Mondo are created and received from LADOK. It is not possible to make any finer distribution to import automatically. What you can do is to create one course site for each sub-course and import the same roster to all of them. If any of the registered students on the 30 credit course don´t study all sub-courses you can inactivate these students from those sites (inactivating means that the student doesn´t get access to that particular course site).

Are re-registered students imported to the site even if the course namn changes each semester?

Yes, re-registered students will be added to the site.

Will my site disappear the next semester?

No sites disappear; they are always available to the site owner. Students will get access to the site as long as it is published.

Adding participants to a site

How do I find a teacher´s user name/user ID?

You can search in external link: SUKAT. Click on the name in the search result.

How do I add external participants?

To add an external participant in Mondo the participant first needs to have a guest account. external link: Invite external guest user.

external link: Information on how external participants activate their guest account.

To add the guest account to a site in Mondo you go to "Site Info" > "Add Participants". In the box "Participants that will be added", type in the username of the guest account with the syntax: "username@guest.su.se". The "username" is the first part of the email adress you entered when you invited the participant to a guest account. For example if you invited an external participant with the email adress "john.doe@mail.com" then you would add the username "john.doe@guest.su.se" to the Mondo site.

I have manually added a user name/user ID to the site but the person can still not access it

Ask the person to look in the tab “My active sites” at the top to the right in Mondo. All hidden sites you have access to can be found there. Also, find out if you have added the correct user name/user ID. Occasionally it happens that some people get more than one user name in SUKAT. Contact external link: helpdesk@su.se if the problem remains.

When I have created my site

Can I change the tools names and order

Yes, go to “Site Info” in the left menu on the site in question and click on “Page order”. You can change the order of appearance by holding the left side of the mouse down and moving the tool up or down in the list. You can also change the tool name by clicking on the icon with the pencil. You can also hide certain tools to students/participants by clicking the icon with the light bulb. (Note! These settings don´t work very well in Internet Explorer. Try using Firefox or Chrome if you run into trouble.)

Change tool names or order

How do I reuse material from an existing site?

You can reuse material/tools from existing sites that you own (role teacher/owner). When you create a new site you start by choosing which tools you want to use. At this stage you need to mark the same tools you wish to reuse content from an old site. In the same way you mark which material you want to use from an existing site. It is only possible to reuse content from some of the tools in Mondo. See below:

  • Announcements
  • Assignments
  • Forum
  • Resources
  • Schedule
  • Syllabus
  • Wiki

You can do the same thing in retrospect in “Site Info” -> “Import from Site”. Note that you must have added the same tools to the site in advance that you want to reuse content from an old site, otherwise the tool will not be shown in the list with tools to choose from. Another way of doing it is to click on “Site Info” -> “Duplicate Site”. Then a new site will be created with exactly the same tools as the old site. The content in the tools mentioned above will be included as well.

Note! Only content added by a teacher/owner of a site can be imported to another site.

What happens to the content added in Assignments and other tools if I remove a participant from my site?

In Assignments, the removed participant´s assignments will also be removed. However if you add the same participant to the site again the assignments will appear again as well. In the other tools the content added by the participant will remain.

How do I delete my site?

You cannot delete a site from Mondo, but you can choose to hide it from the list of sites you have access to. Click on the tab “My Workspace” at the top to the left and choose “Preferences” in the left menu. Mark your site in the left box and move it to the right box. Hidden sites are not shown as tabs and are not shown in the tab “My active sites” either.

Hide old sites

If you really want to delete a site, e.g. if you by mistake happened to create lots of copies of the same site, you can contact external link: helpdesk@su.se and ask them to delete them.

Does the site have limited storage capacity, how much can I add?

The total amount of storage capacity on a site cannot exceed 1 GB (all tools together). If you need more space (quota) than that, contact external link: helpdesk@su.se.

In the tool Resources, each file cannot exceed 100 Mb. If you use WebDA there is no such limit.

Tools and settings

Why does it say in some cases that the students have created a folder, when it was actually created by the teacher?

The information about who created a folder is a bit misleading. It simply shows when the "system" created the folder, which can be either when the teacher opened the tool, or when the student opened the tool.

Is it possible to send emails to students outside Mondo?

Yes, many tools have this option. When a teacher posts a message in the tool Announcements it is possible to choose to send a notification about it at the same time. Other tools that can be used for sending ordinary emails are “Messages” and “Email Archive”. Apart from that, it is possible in some tools to subscribe to changes and receive an email with the changes made. Since there are so many ways in communicating in Mondo it is important to choose one communication channel instead of adding several tools with similar functions.

I want different user groups to have access to different document in the tool Resources.

First you need to create the different groups on the site. You do this in “Site Info” -> “Manage Groups”. When this is done you go to the tool Resources and click on “Actions” on the right side of the folder you want to change permission for, and choose “Edit Folder Permissions”. Mark the groups that should have access to the folder.

What is the difference between ”access” and ”permissions” in the tool Resources?

You can choose to limit the access for each file or folder in Resources to a specific group (that you have created beforehand in “Site Info” -> “Manage Groups”). That means that only the specific group members will see that folder/file. (See the answer to previous question.)

If you go to “Actions” -> “Edit Folder Permissions” you can choose permissions for the different “roles” in Mondo. E.g. you can give students the possibility to upload their own files (“Create resources”) or prevent students from seeing documents in a specific folder (“Read resources”). The permissions are “inherited” from above in the file structure. So if you have many sub-folders it is enough to change the permissions in the top level folder to make it valid for all sub-folders.

Edit folder permissions

Choose what specific groups are allowed to do in the folder

When I upload a file to Resources there are text boxes called “Display Name” and “Description”. When and where will this information be shown to the students?

Display Name is the name that will be shown in the tool Resources. This text box is good to use if the file you are uploading have a long and non-informative name. Write a more appropriate name that helps the student to find what they are looking for. The Description text box will appear when you click on the link “Add details for this item” (to the right of the Display Name field). This information will only be shown in the email notification you can choose to send to the students informing them about the new uploaded file.

How do I copy many files to and from the tool Resources?

The easiest way is to create a special type of folder on your computer that is connected to the tool Resources in Mondo. Click on “Upload-Download Multiple Resources” for more information.
Information about uploaded files

How do I make WebDAV work in Windows Vista/Windows 7?

In general, WebDAV works in Windows XP, but many users have reported problems with Windows Vista and Windows 7. Therefore we recommend that you try a third party application to connect to your computer´s file manager. A free such client is external link: Bitkinex (External web page)

I cannot see some participants first and last name in the participant list displayed in Site Info, only user ID.

If you only see the user ID in the list, e.g. "ansv2452@su.se(ansv2452@su.se)" it means that the user is added to your site, but has never logged in to Mondo. When the user logs in for the first time in Mondo the first and last name will automatically be imported from SUKAT.

Is it possible to set a time limit for the assignments in the tool “Drop Box”?

No, it is not possible. You can do this in the tool “Assignments”.

Can students get an automatic reminder when it is close to deadline for an assignment?

No, but in some tools it is possible to send a message when something new is available. In the tool “Assignments” you have the option to post the due date for submissions to the tool “Schedule”.

Is it possible to use Mondo for electronic course evaluations?

You can use the tool “Test and quiz” to create a simple type of course evaluation. This tool is however not designed for this purpose and we recommend that you use the Stockholm University survey tool “external link: Survey&Report” instead.
